Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The Head of the Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Adel Najafzadeh, reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Republic of Turkiye during a meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara, emphasizing that the expansion of bilateral ties serves the mutual interests of both nations.

Najafzadeh stressed the importance of utilizing all available capacities to advance the shared goals of Iran and Turkey. Highlighting the geographic proximity and cultural similarities between the two countries, he underlined that the security of Turkiye holds significant importance for Iran, particularly in light of the regional threats posed by terrorist groups. He stated that Iran is ready to deepen cooperation with Turkiye in combating terrorism, noting that any threat to one country constitutes a threat to both.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation, led by Najafzadeh, arrived in Ankara on May 29 as part of efforts to bolster parliamentary and intergovernmental relations. The delegation was warmly received by the Chairman of the Turkiye-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, Kayhan Turkmenoglu.

On the first day of the visit, the Iranian delegation held meetings with Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, and Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkiye, Nuh Yilmaz. During the discussions, both sides underscored the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.

The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including the establishment of joint border markets, the opening of new border crossings, the enhancement of transport and communication routes, the promotion of provincial-level exchanges, and intensified collaboration on border security and counter-terrorism efforts.
