Jokowi Honors Indonesian Paralympians with Cash Bonuses for Historic Paris 2024 Achievements
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) extended his heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to Indonesian athletes who participated in the Paris 2024 Paralympics. During a ceremony at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, the president lauded the athletes’ remarkable accomplishments and their role in bringing pride to the nation.
“Congratulations to the athletes of the Paris 2024 Paralympics who have achieved extraordinary success and made Indonesia proud,” President Jokowi remarked in his speech. He expressed immense joy and pride over the achievements of the Indonesian contingent, highlighting their historic performance at the global multi-sport event.
Indonesia’s Paralympic team made history by securing 14 medals: one gold, eight silver, and five bronze. The president noted that these achievements reflect the athletes’ perseverance and dedication, stating, “This is not an instant success but the result of a long process.”
As a token of appreciation for their exceptional performances, President Jokowi handed over cash bonuses to the medalists. Gold medalists were awarded Rp6 billion (approximately USD389,459), while silver medalists received Rp2.75 billion (approximately USD178,556). Bronze medalists were given Rp1.65 billion (approximately USD107,133). In addition, all participating athletes who did not win a medal were granted Rp250 million (approximately USD16,231). Coaches and assistant coaches were also recognized for their dedication with financial rewards.
The Indonesian Paralympic contingent finished 50th in the final medal standings. The gold medal was won in badminton mixed doubles by Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila. Silver medals were secured by Muhammad Bintang Herlangga in boccia men’s singles, Muhammad Syafa, Felix Ardi Yudha, and Gischa Zayana in boccia mixed team, Saptoyogo Purnomo in men’s 100m T37, Karisma Evi Tiarani in women’s 100m T63, Suryo Nugroho in badminton men’s singles SU5, Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh in badminton women’s singles SL3, Leani Ratri Oktila in badminton women’s singles SL4, and Khalimatus Sadiyah and Fredy Setiawan in badminton mixed doubles. Bronze medals were won by Muhamad Syafa in boccia men’s singles, Gischa Zayana in boccia women’s singles, Fredy Setiawan in badminton men’s singles SL4, Dheva Anrimusthi in badminton men’s singles SU5, and Subhan and Rina Marlina in badminton mixed doubles SH6.
President Jokowi expressed his hopes that these accomplishments would inspire the athletes to continue their rigorous training and elevate their performance in future competitions.
