Kazakhstani Film “Talaq” Triumphs at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival
Shanghai, The Gulf Observer: The glamorous Golden Goblet Awards ceremony of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) took place on June 22 at the Shanghai Grand Theater, honoring outstanding achievements in film, acting, screenwriting, and directing, according to media reports.
Kazakhstani film “Talaq” (The Divorce) achieved remarkable success, securing two prestigious awards: Best Feature Film and Best Actress, the latter awarded to Amira Omarova. Directed by Daniyar Salamat, “Talaq” was selected for the feature film section and made its world premiere at the festival. It was one of two Kazakhstani films included in the SIFF main competition program.
Another notable entry was “Longer than a Day,” a film co-produced by Kazakhstan, Russia, and Italy, directed by Malika Mahamejan. This film was showcased in the Asian New Talent Award section and also had its world premiere at the festival.
This year’s SIFF received an overwhelming response, with more than 3,700 entries from 105 countries and regions. Following a rigorous selection process, 50 films from 29 countries and regions were shortlisted across five categories of the Golden Goblet Awards, setting a new record for the number of premieres. A total of 14 films competed for the main prize in the “Full-length Feature Films” category, including “Talaq.”
The Shanghai International Film Festival, held annually since 1993, continues to be a significant platform for showcasing cinematic excellence and fostering international collaboration in the film industry.
