Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe Triumphs in Men’s Race at London Marathon 2025

London, The Gulf Observer: Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe delivered a masterful performance to win the elite men’s race at the 2025 London Marathon, clocking 2:02:25 to claim his second consecutive marathon victory.

The 29-year-old broke away from the leading pack around the 16-mile mark, running negative splits to widen the gap and cross the finish line with arms aloft and a celebratory gesture. His rivals, including Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, had no answer to his pace and strength over the closing miles.

Although Sawe’s time was impressive, he fell short of the course record of 2:01:25 set by the late Kelvin Kiptum in 2023. Nevertheless, his commanding victory affirmed his emergence as one of the top names in global marathon running.

Jacob Kiplimo, the world half-marathon record holder, finished second in his marathon debut with a strong 2:03:37, while Kenya’s Alexander Mutiso Munyao clinched third place in a dramatic sprint finish. Initially, third place was mistakenly awarded to Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, but after review, it was correctly given to Mutiso, who clocked 2:04:20 — a testament to how tightly contested the podium places were.

Meanwhile, two-time world record holder Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as the greatest marathon runner of all time, finished sixth with a time of 2:05:25. Despite running with his trademark composure and confidence early on, Kipchoge was unable to match the relentless pace set by the frontrunners.

Sawe’s London triumph follows his victory at the Valencia Marathon in December 2024, where he posted the fifth-fastest time in men’s marathon history, further solidifying his reputation as a rising force in long-distance running.
