Min Aung Hlaing Inspects Earthquake Damage at Nay Pyi Taw People’s Hospital

Nay Pyi Taw, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council Joint Secretary General General Ye Win Oo and delegation, conducted an on-site inspection yesterday afternoon at Nay Pyi Taw People’s Hospital (300-bed), following the structural damage caused by the recent Mandalay earthquake.

The Senior General and accompanying officials toured the damaged sections of the hospital, including medical wards, intensive care units, operating theatres, and staff housing. The inspection was facilitated by the Union Minister for Health and other relevant officials, who briefed the delegation on the extent of the destruction.

In his remarks, the Senior General underscored the importance of a thorough assessment of the damage, urging coordination with construction experts to determine which structures can be safely repaired and which must be demolished. He emphasized the need for future hospital buildings to be constructed with enhanced resilience against natural disasters, in strict accordance with safety and engineering standards.

“The losses observed from the collapsed buildings highlight the consequences of deviating from established construction norms,” he stated. “We must draw lessons from the past and ensure strict supervision of all future construction projects, especially in critical sectors like healthcare.”

Due to the extensive damage to the hospital infrastructure, medical services have been temporarily relocated to Zeyathiri Township Hospital (50-bed), where patients are currently receiving treatment.

The inspection highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety, restoring essential healthcare services, and improving infrastructure resilience in the aftermath of natural disasters.
