Myanmar and China Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Earthquake Relief Ceremony and Media Cooperation

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: In a heartfelt ceremony held at Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon, Myanmar and China commemorated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with a special event titled “Moral Support for Communities Affected by Earthquake.” The event aimed to provide solace to those affected by the recent devastating earthquake while celebrating decades of strong bilateral ties.
The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Myint, and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia, alongside other senior officials.
Proceedings began with a touching musical performance by students and vocalists, followed by a video presentation titled “Myanmar, Moving Forward Aftermath of Severe Earthquake.” A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
In his address, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn highlighted China’s swift response in the aftermath of the earthquake, noting that the Chinese emergency rescue team was the first to arrive. Their prompt action led to the rescue of four survivors and the recovery of 64 deceased, all of whom were returned to their families. Chinese medical teams also provided critical aid, setting up a mobile clinic in Mandalay, one of the worst-affected areas.
As part of the 75th anniversary celebrations, a Myanmar-China Media Dialogue was held earlier on 1 June at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The actual anniversary falls on 8 June, for which a grand commemorative ceremony is planned.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ma Jia expressed confidence in the resilience of the Myanmar people and reaffirmed the strength of the China-Myanmar friendship, particularly through media collaboration and humanitarian support. As a symbolic gesture, the ambassador handed over Myanmar-language films and documentaries, produced by China Media Group (CMG), to Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn for broadcast on MRTV.
The ceremony also included the distribution of relief supplies to 11 affected households from MRTV and 110 from the Ministry of Education. Entertainment segments followed, featuring musical performances and a quiz programme, providing much-needed emotional support to the attendees.
To conclude the event, video clips produced by CMG were screened at the MRTV Auditorium for earthquake-affected communities in Tatkon Township, underscoring the continued cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.
