Oman Advances Healthcare with Localisation of Heart Transplant Services

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman is making significant progress in its healthcare sector as the Ministry of Health takes decisive steps to localise heart transplant services. This initiative is part of the broader National Organ Transplant Program, running from 2023 to 2025, and underscores Oman’s dedication to providing world-class medical care to its citizens.

The technical committee for heart transplantation within the National Organ Transplant Programme convened its inaugural meeting today, chaired by H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al-Sabti, the Minister of Health. This meeting marks a crucial milestone in the country’s efforts to establish domestic heart transplant capabilities by 2025.

As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Health has also activated the option for heart donation after death through its Shifa application, facilitating easier registration and participation in the organ donation program.

The National Organ Transplant Program has seen substantial growth, with over 12,000 people registered as organ donors in 2023 alone. This increase in registered donors reflects a growing awareness and commitment among Omani citizens to support life-saving medical procedures.

The Ministry’s focus on heart transplants is expected to save lives and significantly improve the quality of life for patients suffering from heart failure. By prioritizing organ donation and transplantation, Oman is not only enhancing the health of its population but also setting a commendable example for other countries in the region.

This strategic initiative will further strengthen Oman’s healthcare system and ensure that citizens have access to advanced medical treatments without needing to seek care abroad.
