Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of the country’s Security Council to review proposed military reforms aimed at modernizing the Armed Forces and strengthening the country’s defence capabilities, according to the Akorda press service.

The main item on the agenda was the draft Military Reform Plan, which seeks to improve the effectiveness, readiness and technological capabilities of the country’s military.

During the meeting, Tokayev instructed officials to prepare and submit proposals for a comprehensive overhaul of the defence sector to the Security Council, taking into account the ongoing nationwide reforms.

The president stressed the urgent need to establish a modern, mobile and technologically advanced army, emphasizing that the transformation of the Armed Forces must be implemented within the shortest possible timeframe.

He said the reform would encompass all key areas of military development, including command and control systems, troop training, personnel policies, military education, defence planning and technological modernization.

Tokayev also underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of military personnel, strengthening command culture and improving the efficient use of state resources.

He further called for changes in the relationship between the Armed Forces and society, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to military transformation.

“The task has been set to transform the quality of the Armed Forces,” Tokayev said, emphasizing that partial measures would not deliver the required results.

The meeting reflects Kazakhstan’s focus on comprehensive military modernization to enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen defence preparedness and ensure that the Armed Forces meet contemporary security challenges.
