President Tokayev Opens First Session of Kazakhstan’s People’s Council

Astana, The Gulf Observer: The first session of the Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi (People’s Council), the country’s highest consultative body, commenced at the Palace of Independence in Astana with the participation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, according to media reports.

Addressing the opening session, President Tokayev congratulated the participants on the establishment of the new institution, describing the occasion as an important and historic milestone for Kazakhstan.

“I congratulate you on the opening of the first session of the highest consultative body of our country—the Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi. Today is a very important day for our country, which can rightfully be called historic,” the President said.

Tokayev expressed confidence that the Khalyk Kenesi, which holds constitutional status, would assume a distinctive role within Kazakhstan’s political system.

The President noted that Kazakhstan is currently undergoing large-scale transformation, with comprehensive reforms being implemented across various spheres of public life.

“Deep reforms are being carried out in all spheres of our society. However, it cannot be said that the changes end here. They will undoubtedly continue,” he said.

According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan has embarked on the modernization of its governance system in response to contemporary challenges and evolving societal needs.

“The establishment of the Khalyk Kenesi is compelling evidence of this,” the President stated.
