Samarkand to Host 59th Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting with Over 3,000 Delegates

Samarkand

Samarkand The Gulf Observer: From May 3 to 6, the historic city of Samarkand will host the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), bringing together more than 3,000 delegates from across the globe, including senior bank officials, representatives of financial institutions, and international partners.

Extensive preparations are underway across the city, with the Silk Road Samarkand International Tourist Center serving as the primary venue. A dedicated operational headquarters has been established to oversee daily coordination and ensure the smooth execution of all organizational activities.

Authorities have placed particular emphasis on transportation arrangements for participants. According to the regional transport department, a comprehensive mobility plan has been implemented, with operational hubs set up at the airport and railway stations. Since April 28, electric buses have been deployed at key locations, while eight transport hubs connecting around 50 hotels have been established to accommodate delegates. High-ranking guests will be provided with premium transport services.

During the meeting, shuttle services will operate within the Silk Road Samarkand Center from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with 15-minute intervals. Additional transport services, running every 30 minutes, will facilitate visits to Samarkand’s historical landmarks, as well as hotels and dining venues.

The ADB remains one of Uzbekistan’s largest financial partners. Over the past five years, the bank has mobilized more than $5.4 billion for development projects in the country. In 2025 alone, the ADB’s portfolio in Uzbekistan includes nearly 60 initiatives valued at $9.5 billion.

Under its 2024–2028 cooperation strategy, the ADB aims to support Uzbekistan’s transition toward a green economy and inclusive growth. Key priority areas include energy development—particularly renewable energy and power infrastructure—water supply, transport and logistics, education, social services, private sector growth, financial systems, and environmental sustainability.

Samarkand’s hosting of this major international gathering underscores Uzbekistan’s growing role as a regional hub for economic dialogue and cooperation. Notably, Tashkent previously hosted the 43rd ADB Annual Meeting in 2010.
