Sri Lanka Announces US$ 1 Million Assistance for Nepal Flood Relief

Colombo, The Gulf Observer: President Anura Kumara Disanayaka has directed the government to provide a financial contribution of US$ 1 million to Nepal in support of its ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said.

The Ministry said the donation is being made in a demonstration of Sri Lanka’s solidarity with the people of Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that have caused loss of life.

The President expressed his deep sorrow at the tragic loss of lives and the suffering caused by the disaster, and conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the Government and people of Nepal, particularly to the families who have lost their loved ones.

Recalling the close and longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two countries, the President emphasised that Sri Lanka stands firmly with the people of Nepal in this hour of need.

The financial contribution is intended to support immediate relief and humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the floods and landslides.
