Swiss President Condemns Deadly New Year’s Eve Alpine Bar Fire

Crown Montana, The Gulf Observer: Swiss President Guy Parmelin on Thursday described the deadly New Year’s Eve fire at an Alpine bar as one of the most serious tragedies in Switzerland’s recent history, as authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Parmelin emphasized that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, noting that a thorough investigation is owed to the victims, their families, and the public. “Such a tragedy must not happen again,” he said, adding that flags will be flown at half-mast for five days in remembrance of those lost.
The president acknowledged that identifying the victims is a complex process that will require time. He also expressed gratitude to France, Germany, and Italy for their support and confirmed that authorities are in contact with the families of foreign victims.
In response to the fire, the area has been sealed off and a no-fly zone imposed. Emergency services deployed around 10 helicopters, 40 ambulances, and 150 responders to the site.
Officials have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
