Pakistan, Ethiopia Agree to Strengthen Trade and Economic Cooperation

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), called on H.E. Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce of Pakistan, on Thursday at the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides held comprehensive discussions on a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity, tourism, and cultural exchanges, underscoring their shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
The two sides agreed to establish a Joint Trade Committee in line with the bilateral trade agreement signed in 2023, with the objective of facilitating structured engagement and expanding economic cooperation.
Ambassador Dr. Oumer emphasized the importance of improved connectivity between Ethiopia and Pakistan, noting that enhanced logistics and transport linkages are essential for boosting trade, investment, and tourism. He also highlighted Ethiopia’s vast investment potential, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, information and communication technology (ICT), and mining sectors, and invited the Pakistani business community to explore emerging opportunities.
Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan acknowledged the significant scope for growth across these sectors and recalled his recent visit to Ethiopia during Pakistan’s Single Country Exhibition held in Addis Ababa in 2025. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic relations and assured full support for building a more integrated and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
The meeting reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan–Ethiopia relations, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaboration and economic engagement.
