Tajikistan, UK Discuss Regional Security and Counterterrorism Cooperation

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon met with Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on September 28, the media reported.

During the meeting, the Tajik side emphasized that the country attaches primary importance to promoting a culture of peace, preventing conflicts and eliminating factors contributing to terrorism and extremism.

Rahmon highlighted the continuation of the “Dushanbe Process on Countering Terrorism and its Financing” as well as the adoption, on the initiative of President of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, of a UN General Assembly resolution entitled “International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036).”

According to the Tajik side, these initiatives demonstrate Tajikistan’s active role in promoting international cooperation in combating terrorism and strengthening peace and trust worldwide.

The meeting also addressed issues related to strengthening regional security and expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in combating terrorism and extremism, transnational crime, illicit drug trafficking and other security threats affecting the region and the wider international community.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation and enhance bilateral dialogue on regional and international security issues.
