Tokayev, Mirziyoyev Discuss Trade, Investment and Transport Cooperation
Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the further development of bilateral relations, trade, investment and transport cooperation during a telephone conversation on Monday.
According to the Akorda press service, President Mirziyoyev congratulated Tokayev on the successful first election of deputies to Kazakhstan’s Qurultay. Tokayev expressed gratitude to the Uzbek leader for Uzbekistan’s support and for sending an observer mission to monitor the elections, including within the framework of international organizations.
During the conversation, Tokayev also briefed his Uzbek counterpart on ongoing political reforms in Kazakhstan, describing the Qurultay as an important component of the country’s continuing political transformation aimed at building a progressive, modern and just state.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the continued development of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan relations, noting that bilateral ties are strengthening on the basis of friendship and strategic partnership.
Particular attention was devoted to expanding trade and economic cooperation. The presidents discussed the implementation of joint investment projects in the transport and logistics sectors, the expansion of industrial cooperation and measures to strengthen contacts between the business communities of the two countries.
Tokayev and Mirziyoyev also exchanged views on current regional and international issues, reaffirming the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The latest high-level discussions underscore the growing strategic importance of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan relations and the two countries’ efforts to deepen economic ties, expand investment opportunities and strengthen transport and logistics connectivity across Central Asia.
