Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: The Asian Women’s Forum commenced its proceedings today in Samarkand, delving into the theme of “Regional Approach to Expanding the Economic, Social, and Political Rights and Opportunities of Women.” According to reports from the website of the Mejlis of Uzbekistan, the forum has drawn participation from a diverse array of stakeholders, including women parliamentarians, government officials, representatives of foreign missions, and civil society organizations.
The event boasts attendance from over 30 women deputies hailing from the parliaments of East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Central Asia. Additionally, heads of government, representatives from more than 40 foreign embassies and organizations in Uzbekistan, and approximately 400 delegates from civil society institutions, business sectors, academia, and various fields are actively engaged in the forum.
Among the delegations, Turkmenistan is represented by a notable delegation comprising Bahar Seydova, Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Policy, alongside Bayramgozel Myradova, a member of the Committee on Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
Following the inaugural ceremony, participants swiftly transitioned into parallel sessions, facilitating the exchange of insights and exploration of contemporary methodologies advocated by international organizations and financial institutions.
The conception of the Asian Women’s Forum in Uzbekistan traces back to a pivotal moment when President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed the idea during his address at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Highlighting the rich potential of women and the imperative to harness it across all spheres of society, Mirziyoyev’s visionary call has materialized into a platform aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing experiences, and advancing the status of women in the region.
As deliberations unfold over the course of the forum, stakeholders anticipate the emergence of actionable strategies and partnerships geared towards bolstering women’s empowerment, thereby propelling the collective pursuit of socio-economic progress and gender equality across Asia.
