Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, DG of the World Health Organization (WHO), during a meeting held today at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi. The discussions centered on fostering collaboration between the UAE and WHO, underscoring the crucial need for strengthened international health cooperation in addressing the profound impact of diseases and pandemics on global development, security, and stability.
Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus lauded His Highness for the successful hosting of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the UAE, applauding the unprecedented focus on the health sector during COP events and its positive implications for addressing health consequences associated with climate change.
The WHO Director-General expressed gratitude for His Highness’s global initiatives combating diseases and epidemics and commended the UAE’s pivotal role in supporting WHO’s global health programs. Special mention was made of the UAE’s substantial humanitarian and health support to the Gaza Strip, including hosting children and cancer patients for treatment and establishing a fully-equipped field hospital. The meeting, attended by key dignitaries including H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, underscored the UAE’s commitment to advancing global health and humanitarian efforts.
