Vinh International Airport Expansion Approved for 2021-2030 in Nghệ An Province

Nghệ An, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Transport has approved the planning for the expansion of Vinh International Airport in central Nghệ An Province for the period of 2021-2030. The airport will serve both civil and military purposes, and the expansion is set to significantly increase its capacity and infrastructure.

Under the approved plan, Vinh International Airport will have an annual capacity of 8 million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo. The initial phase will focus on expanding Terminal T1 to accommodate 5 million passengers per year. Additionally, Terminal T2 will be constructed between two runways, with an estimated capacity of 3 million passengers annually.

By 2050, the airport’s capacity is projected to reach 14 million passengers and 35,000 tonnes of cargo per year. Terminal T2 alone will be capable of handling 9 million passengers annually. The expansion also includes the construction of a second runway, which will be 3 kilometers long and 45 meters wide, slated to be completed during this planning period.

To support the airport’s growth, approximately 544 hectares of land, including both civil aviation and military areas, will be required. An additional 96.5 hectares of land is proposed to meet the expansion needs.

The Việt Nam Civil Aviation Authority (VCAA) has been assigned the responsibility to review the evaluation report from the Planning and Investment Department and to finalize the planning dossier. The VCAA will also coordinate with the Nghệ An Province People’s Committee and other relevant agencies to ensure proper implementation, management, and public disclosure of the planning process.

The Nghệ An People’s Committee will oversee the review and update of the airport’s planning to secure and protect land funds for future development.

The expansion of Vinh International Airport is a key initiative to support the socio-economic development of Nghệ An Province, enhance national security, and accommodate the growth of the aviation industry.
