Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored the imperative for collaborative efforts among all members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to ensure the organization’s robust development, transforming it into a stabilizing anchor amidst the dynamic global changes. Minister Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed these sentiments during a reception held in Beijing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the SCO Secretariat.

Against the backdrop of unprecedented changes unfolding in the world and the commencement of a new era marked by turbulence and transformation, Minister Wang highlighted the heightened significance of upholding the principles of the Shanghai Spirit and strengthening the cooperative platform provided by the SCO. He emphasized the collective responsibility of all member states to propel the SCO towards greater prominence and resilience.

China, Wang affirmed, will persist in prioritizing the SCO in its diplomatic agenda. The nation will continue to extend unwavering support to the SCO Secretariat, providing the necessary facilitation and encouragement. Additionally, China expressed its commitment to supporting Kazakhstan during its rotating presidency of the SCO.

Looking ahead, Minister Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with all parties involved to ensure the forthcoming Astana Summit produces meaningful outcomes. He anticipates that the summit will chart new avenues for the SCO’s development, thereby contributing significantly to global peace and shared prosperity.

During the celebration, Zhang Ming, Secretary-General of the SCO, reflected on the organization’s remarkable journey over the past two decades. From its initial six member states, the SCO has evolved into a family of 26 member states, observers, and dialogue partners. Zhang commended the SCO’s unique cooperation model characterized by solidarity, coordination, openness, win-win results, inclusiveness, and mutual learning among nations with diverse social systems and development paths.

Affirming the Secretariat’s commitment to supporting the SCO’s continued growth, Zhang expressed confidence in the organization’s ability to navigate the evolving global landscape.

The anniversary celebration drew the participation of over 200 attendees, including diplomatic envoys from SCO countries and representatives of international organizations in China, emphasizing the shared commitment to the principles and objectives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
