Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan is making significant preparations for the upcoming 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. As a nation elected to serve as vice-chairman of the session, Turkmenistan is poised to present several key initiatives aimed at promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development, according to a statement from the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Among the proposals Turkmenistan plans to introduce is the development of a Global Security Strategy, a comprehensive framework intended to address current and emerging global threats. Additionally, the country will advocate for the creation of a specialized training program for UN global mediators, aimed at enhancing conflict resolution capabilities worldwide. Another significant initiative is the proposal for a Global Framework for the Transition to a Circular Economy, underscoring Turkmenistan’s commitment to sustainable development.

The Turkmen government has reiterated its dedication to the principles of neutrality and preventive diplomacy, emphasizing its continued efforts to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of its agenda, Turkmenistan plans to focus on critical global challenges, including climate change, transport, energy security, and humanitarian issues.

In line with its environmental priorities, Turkmenistan will propose the establishment of a Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia. This initiative aims to foster regional cooperation and innovation in addressing climate-related challenges. Moreover, Turkmenistan intends to advance discussions on the creation of a UN Special Programme for the Aral Sea Basin, further demonstrating its commitment to addressing pressing environmental concerns in the region.
