President To Lam Advocates Global Cooperation at UN Summit of the Future

New York, The Gulf Observer: The United Nations Summit of the Future commenced at the UN headquarters today, with global leaders converging to discuss key challenges and opportunities shaping the future of humanity. Leading the Vietnamese delegation to the event, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President Tô Lâm delivered a compelling address at the first plenary session.

In his speech, President Lâm emphasized the transformative power of human intelligence, which has contributed to significant advancements and improved living standards across the world. However, he also pointed out that human actions are at the root of many of the global difficulties and challenges we face today.

“The choices we make today will shape our future,” President Lâm stressed, urging the international community to place sustainable development and the well-being of humanity at the forefront of global efforts. He underscored that scientific and technological advancements should serve as tools for social progress, focused on human development, enhancing quality of life, and securing the happiness of future generations.

President Lâm advocated for the use of science and technology to foster cooperation, not division, and to uphold peace, equity, and justice worldwide. He emphasized that these achievements should be directed towards economic development, building a fair and civilized society, and eradicating poverty.

To this end, the Vietnamese leader proposed increasing investments in crucial sectors such as medical research, education and training, digital transformation, and green transition. He called for a reduction in funding for the research and production of weapons of mass destruction, highlighting that peace, stability, and sustainable development must be prioritized over conflict.

President Lâm also called for greater global solidarity and cooperation, urging countries to respect international law, adhere to the United Nations Charter, and resolve disputes through peaceful means. He appealed to major powers to act responsibly, share scientific and technological advancements, and work towards the common good of all humanity.

“The UN and regional organizations, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), must take the lead in promoting cooperation and coordinating actions to address global challenges and capitalize on technological advancements,” he said.

President Lâm concluded by reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to contributing to global efforts in building a peaceful and prosperous world. He expressed hope that the documents adopted at the summit—including the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations—will be implemented effectively to ensure equal development and a better future for all.

The summit’s adopted documents outline ambitious goals across various fields of cooperation within the UN framework, reflecting a shared commitment to shaping a brighter future for the generations to come.
