Saudi Arabia Advocates for Enhanced UN Security Council Consultation with Regional Organizations
New York, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia underscored the necessity of improving consultation mechanisms between the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and regional organizations, as stated by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during a meeting on Thursday.
The foreign minister participated in an Arab League troika meeting alongside representatives from Bahrain and Iraq, engaging with member states of the UNSC chaired by Slovenia on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
During the discussions, Prince Faisal commended Slovenia’s recent decision to recognize the State of Palestine, affirming the importance of international support for Palestinian rights.
He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s full backing for the mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, while expressing strong opposition to Israeli actions that impede these diplomatic efforts.
Additionally, Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and praised the agency’s ongoing initiatives in the Gaza Strip.
The foreign minister emphasized the critical need for enhanced cooperation and coordination among the Arab League, the UNSC, and international partners to make progress on regional issues and contribute to the advancement of international peace and security, as reported by SPA.
