As part of the event, 4.615 million PKR in “Caring for Students” grants were distributed to 12 local students, underscoring the company’s commitment to education and local welfare.
The Chinese company working on the project announced its commitment to addressing the social needs of the project area by organizing various social welfare activities and embracing sustainable development principles. “We will continue to provide abundant clean energy for Pakistan and strictly uphold its social responsibility concept of “Enhancing the Quality of Life and Promoting Sustainable Development”, it said. In his remarks, the Commissioner of Hazara Division expressed his deep appreciation to S K Hydro (Private) Limited for its long-standing contributions to regional socio-economic development and its active involvement in social welfare initiatives.
He highlighted the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by supporting education, constructing infrastructure, providing flood relief, and contributing to environmental conservation. The Commissioner also praised the project for strengthening China-Pakistan friendship, stating that all levels of government in Hazara Division would continue supporting the construction, operation, and security of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station. This, in turn, will foster a favorable environment for the successful execution of the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said.
In his speech, Danish Khan, Deputy General Manager of S K Hydro (Private) Limited, noted that Energy China specifically established S K Hydro (Private) Limited for the development, construction, and operation of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station. It is a hydropower energy enterprise that serves the high-quality construction of the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”. He added that, the “Dreams Becoming Reality” CSR activities embrace a host of CSR activities including the construction of the regional viewing platform of the headworks of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, the Government Affairs Service Center, Healthcare Center and public restrooms in Kaghan Region, in addition to the continuously organized “Caring for Students” Fellowship Program.
Before the launch ceremony, the delegation visited powerhouses, switchyards, and other areas of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station to understand its construction and operation. With its trial operation completed on September 13, 2024, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station is the largest hydropower station invested in and constructed overseas by Energy China. It is also on the first project list of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a high priority on the Belt and Road Initiative agenda. After the Project is completed and put in commercial operation, it is expected to generate up to 3.212 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, contributing to the reduction of about 1.28 million tons of standard coal and approximately 3.2 million tons of CO2 emission, and providing affordable clean electricity to more than 1 million households in Pakistan.
While effectively alleviating power shortage in Pakistan, it exerts active and far-reaching influence on the optimization of the electrical energy structure, easing of supply and demand contradictions, and advancement of infrastructure and economic development and transformation in Pakistan.
