Beijing, The Gulf Observer: In a recent directive on civil affairs, President Xi Jinping has called for intensified efforts to bolster inclusive public services aimed at addressing the essential needs and supporting the basic living standards of citizens facing difficulties. President Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed a people-centered approach to resolving key issues impacting the public.

President Xi commended the notable progress made in civil affairs in recent years, urging Party committees and governmental bodies at all levels to address the most pressing concerns directly affecting citizens. He emphasized the role of civil affairs departments in implementing strategies that respond to China’s aging population and enhance social assistance, welfare, and governance measures.

At a national civil affairs conference held in Beijing from Friday to Saturday, Premier Li Qiang, a Standing Committee member of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau, delivered remarks underscoring the link between China’s modernization efforts and the continuous improvement of civil affairs to protect and serve the interests of vulnerable groups, including the elderly and disabled. Premier Li highlighted the need for a heartfelt commitment to civil affairs, urging systematic reforms to create new paths for the sector’s growth.

State Councilor Shen Yiqin also addressed the conference, urging further development of social assistance systems, eldercare, and charitable initiatives. Shen called for reforms across various civil sectors, including funeral services, to better serve the public.
