First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva Visits Thalassemia Center
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Mehriban Aliyeva, First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, visited the Thalassemia Center, accompanied by family members. During her visit, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev briefed Aliyeva on the center’s facilities and recent developments.
The First Vice-President toured various departments, including the transplant unit, the newly inaugurated intensive care unit, and the adult inpatient department. Aliyeva engaged with children receiving treatment, as well as with medical staff, to assess their progress and listen to their experiences.
Established in 2009, the Thalassemia Center is a leading institution for thalassemia treatment and a source of significant support for affected patients and their families. It serves as a hub for specialized care, providing a range of services that include a dedicated blood bank, voluntary donor programs, and public awareness initiatives aimed at preventing the disease’s spread.
Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation remains committed to supporting healthcare initiatives and prioritizes the Thalassemia Center’s mission. She highlighted the foundation’s work in establishing partnerships with international organizations to advance treatment and prevention of thalassemia in Azerbaijan.
The center’s impact is far-reaching, addressing critical needs in blood donation and safety, while fostering international cooperation to expand Azerbaijan’s capacity in combatting thalassemia.
