In his address, the High Commissioner emphasized that Ramadan epitomizes reflection, unity, and giving—values that align with the ASEAN spirit. He reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to strengthening ties between Malaysia, Pakistan, and the broader ASEAN community.

Malaysia’s Vision for ASEAN 2025

The High Commissioner highlighted that Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 will mark a significant milestone as the organization commemorates the 10th anniversary of the formal establishment of the ASEAN Community. Under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” Malaysia aims to maintain ASEAN’s status as a resilient and forward-looking organization.

Key priorities outlined include promoting strategic trust through diplomacy and dialogue, enhancing ASEAN centrality, and fostering economic growth through inclusivity and sustainability. The High Commissioner stressed the importance of strengthening intra-ASEAN trade and investment, while also expanding partnerships beyond the region, particularly with Pakistan.

The economic agenda for ASEAN 2025 will focus on promoting green finance, digital resilience, and narrowing developmental disparities to improve living standards while addressing climate change challenges.

Regional Unity and Cooperation

Malaysia remains dedicated to supporting Timor-Leste’s accession as ASEAN’s 11th member, further solidifying the community’s inclusiveness. Additionally, the High Commissioner emphasized Malaysia’s resolve to ensure regional peace and stability, including advancing the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus for Myanmar and negotiating the Code of Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

Strengthening ASEAN-Pakistan Ties

The High Commissioner acknowledged ASEAN’s importance as one of Pakistan’s major trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching USD 11.8 billion. He expressed confidence that economic diplomacy would bolster trade and investment between ASEAN and Pakistan, paving the way for shared prosperity.

In his closing remarks, the High Commissioner bid farewell to his Personal Assistant, Madam Mala, and her spouse, Mr. Don, who are returning to Malaysia after completing their duties at the High Commission. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for their dedicated service and wished them well.
