President of Turkmenistan Awarded Honorary Doctorate by Japan’s Tsukuba University

Tokyo, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by Tsukuba University, one of Japan’s most prestigious institutions, in recognition of his contributions to strengthening Turkmen-Japanese relations, particularly in the field of education. The award ceremony took place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, according to Turkmenistan’s official media on Tuesday.

During the event, President Berdimuhamedov met with Tsukuba University President Kyosuke Nagata to discuss expanding cooperation between the academic institutions of both nations.

In his remarks, President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral ties with Japan, with a special focus on educational and scientific collaboration. He highlighted the vital role of academic exchange and direct institutional partnerships in fostering mutual understanding and advancing human capital development.

The Turkmen leader reaffirmed his support for further joint initiatives aimed at deepening Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in the humanitarian and scientific fields.

Currently, Tsukuba University maintains active cooperation agreements with two of Turkmenistan’s leading academic institutions: the Dovletmammet Azadi Institute of World Languages and the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University. These partnerships serve as a foundation for continued exchange in research, language education, and technological innovation.

The conferral of the honorary degree underscores the growing importance of people-to-people ties and academic diplomacy in the broader framework of Turkmen-Japanese relations.
