Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto was conferred the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (Most Esteemed Family Order of Laila Utama) by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday, marking a significant moment in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
The award, presented at the Nurul Iman Palace in Bandar Seri Begawan, represents the Sultanate’s highest honor reserved for heads of state and world leaders who have made notable contributions to fostering close relations with Brunei Darussalam.
During his remarks following the ceremonial presentation, President Prabowo underscored the deep-rooted friendship between Indonesia and Brunei, highlighting the historical, cultural, and religious ties shared by both nations.
“This visit is certainly very important for us. As mentioned earlier, the two countries share common roots, culture, history, and religion. We are truly ‘one family,’” President Prabowo stated.
He further emphasized the critical role of unity and mutual support among ASEAN member states, particularly in the face of global uncertainty.
“Only through cooperation between us, as fellow ASEAN members, can we together protect each other amid global uncertainty,” he said, reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to regional solidarity.
President Prabowo also noted the interconnectedness of both countries’ well-being, expressing Indonesia’s unwavering support for its close neighbor.
“If Brunei is ‘pinched,’ all of us in Indonesia will also feel the pain. We are very proud to have Brunei Darussalam as a good friend,” he concluded.
The state ceremony at the palace concluded with a luncheon hosted by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in honor of the Indonesian President and his delegation.
President Prabowo is scheduled to return to Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon following the completion of his official visit to Brunei Darussalam.
