Prabowo Calls on BRICS to Turn Vulnerabilities into Strength for Inclusive Growth

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on BRICS countries to transform vulnerabilities into opportunities and collective strength to build more resilient, equitable and sustainable economies.

Prabowo made the remarks while addressing the 2026 BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on Sunday during a session themed “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth.”

According to a statement from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo stressed that resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability should ultimately deliver tangible benefits for people.

The Indonesian President said his country understands the challenges faced by fellow BRICS members, noting that Indonesia’s location along the Pacific Ring of Fire exposes it to a range of risks, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events and volcanic activity.

Despite these vulnerabilities, Prabowo expressed confidence in Indonesia’s capacity to build a better future, citing the country’s abundant forests, critical minerals, rare-earth elements and renewable energy resources.

He noted that other BRICS countries also possess substantial natural resources and collectively account for a significant share of the world’s critical minerals and energy supplies.

According to Prabowo, these resources can be strategically harnessed to lay the foundations for a new era of green economic development.

The Indonesian leader also emphasised the importance of learning from natural disasters and recognising the close links between resilience, climate change and national development.

He called for greater cooperation among Indonesia, BRICS members and other countries of the Global South to address shared challenges and strengthen collective resilience.

Prabowo urged BRICS countries to better align their resources, production capacities, technological capabilities and markets so that the grouping can play a greater role in shaping global development.

He had also highlighted the role of BRICS in strengthening global resilience during the first day of the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12, when he addressed a session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism.”

At that session, Prabowo stressed that BRICS could strengthen its collective capacity to contribute to global resilience by mobilising resources for infrastructure and development.

He further emphasised that such efforts could help enhance the ability of countries in the Global South to finance and shape their own development future.
