PUIC Summit Boosts Islamic Unity and Cooperation, Says Iran’s Parliament Speaker

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Parliament Speaker of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, emphasized that the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference has laid a strong foundation for enhancing practical economic and cultural ties among Islamic nations.

Speaking to reporters at Mehrabad International Airport upon his return on Friday, Qalibaf noted that the PUIC framework encompasses several key committees—including those focused on Palestine, economic affairs, human rights, and women’s issues—which were all actively engaged during the conference.

He underlined the significance of the PUIC as a vital platform for fostering bilateral and multilateral dialogues among the participating parliamentary delegations.

Qalibaf also stressed the unity and determination of Islamic countries in confronting the Israeli regime’s violations, describing the PUIC’s stance as cohesive and resolute in opposing such actions.

His remarks came as the U.S. President toured Persian Gulf states—a visit Qalibaf suggested was intended to sow division among Islamic nations, destabilize the region, and promote arms sales.

Highlighting Indonesia’s growing influence, Qalibaf pointed to the country’s active role in major international groupings such as BRICS, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, adding that Indonesia plays a significant role in shaping regional and global policy in Southeast Asia.

During the PUIC conference, Qalibaf held seven bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Indonesia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Malaysia. These talks aimed to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and explore avenues for expanded cooperation in various sectors.
