Tehran Marks 36th Anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s Passing with Solemn Commemoration

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: The Islamic Republic of Iran today commemorated the 36th anniversary of the passing of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini, the revered founder of the Islamic Republic, in a solemn ceremony held at his mausoleum on the southern outskirts of Tehran.
The annual event brought together a wide array of attendees, including high-ranking military and government officials, the families of martyrs, and numerous devoted followers of the late Imam. The ceremony serves as a moment of national reflection, during which Iranians renew their commitment to the principles and values advocated by Imam Khomeini.
The program commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the playing of the Iranian national anthem and religious eulogies honoring the late leader’s enduring legacy.
Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the custodian of the mausoleum and Imam Khomeini’s grandson, delivered a speech paying tribute to the Imam’s pivotal role in shaping the modern Iranian identity and inspiring generations with a message of resistance and self-reliance.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, is scheduled to address the nation during the ceremony, offering guidance and reflection on Imam Khomeini’s ideological framework and its relevance to contemporary challenges.
In a pre-event gathering held the night before, newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored Imam Khomeini’s leadership in guiding the Iranian nation toward dignity and national pride. He invoked the iconic slogan of the late Imam — “We Can” — as a symbol of enduring confidence and resilience, asserting that the Islamic Republic will continue to resist oppression and uphold the principles of justice.
Imam Khomeini, who led the 1979 Islamic Revolution and laid the ideological foundations of the Islamic Republic, passed away due to illness on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87. His legacy remains a central pillar of Iran’s political and spiritual identity.
