Burhan Canbaz Named “Best Presenter of Cyprus” as KTGB Announces Media Achievement Awards

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union (KTGB) has officially announced the results of its annual “Media Achievement and Encouragement Awards Competition,” held in celebration of Press Day, observed every year on July 11. This year’s prestigious title of “Best Presenter of Cyprus” was awarded to Burhan Canbaz, in recognition of his exceptional on-screen performance and impactful news delivery style.
According to a statement issued by KTGB, a total of 56 applications were received for the competition. The evaluation process considered both individual applications and nominations submitted by KTGB members. In addition to these, the Award Committee exercised its authority to bestow certain awards on its own initiative.
Burhan Canbaz received unanimous acclaim from the jury, praised for his compelling presentation style, objective reporting, and professional demeanor—qualities that collectively earned him the top honor.
In the same competition, Rahme Çiftçioğlu and Arda Mercan, both correspondents of the Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK), were also recognized for their contributions to journalism.
The awards ceremony included a commemoration of late journalists Perihan Aziz and Neriman Cahit, honoring their legacy. In addition, special awards were presented in the names of former KTGB chairpersons Özcan Özcanhan and Mustafa Doğrusöz, as well as the late journalist Sami Taşarkan, as a tribute to their enduring impact on Cypriot journalism.
Looking ahead, KTGB has initiated efforts to revise the award criteria, with the goal of further enhancing quality within the media sector and encouraging the growth and development of young journalists.
