Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan Hold 8th Joint Intergovernmental Commission Meeting in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation in the Economic and Humanitarian Spheres between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was convened in Baku, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral ties.
The session was co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev.
In his opening remarks, Minister Jabbarov emphasized that the strong historical bonds, cultural proximity, and mutual respect between the two fraternal nations form the basis of their robust cooperation. He highlighted that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are jointly implementing significant projects and initiatives across strategic sectors.
“We explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation and mutual investments across various sectors, including business, trade, energy, transport, industry, and agriculture,” Jabbarov stated.
He noted that 75 companies with Turkmen capital are currently operating in Azerbaijan in areas such as industry, transport, construction, trade, and services. The Minister also underlined the importance of continued collaboration in revitalizing the East-West transport corridor and enhancing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor, pointing out that transit transportation volumes between the two countries exceeded 2 million tons last year and surpassed 1 million tons in the first half of this year.
Key topics of discussion included expanding cooperation in trade, energy, industrial zones, transport, business, agriculture, and the development potential of the Alat Free Economic Zone.
Deputy Chairman Atagulyev echoed the importance of deepening ties with Azerbaijan and highlighted the wide-ranging prospects for advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. He shared Turkmenistan’s vision for expanding partnership across multiple fields.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol that outlines the outcomes and future direction of the 8th Joint Intergovernmental Commission, reinforcing the two nations’ shared commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development.
