Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s women’s national football team concluded its 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in disappointment after suffering two consecutive penalty shootout defeats that ended the hosts’ hopes of winning the title and securing a place on the podium.
The Atlas Lionesses were eliminated by Cameroon in the semi-final following a goalless draw after extra time. Cameroon prevailed 3-1 in the penalty shootout, denying Morocco an opportunity to reach the final on home soil.
Morocco subsequently faced Algeria in the third-place playoff on August 15. The match ended 1-1 after regulation time, with Algeria winning the ensuing penalty shootout 3-2. The result left Morocco in fourth place without a medal.
