Al Qasimia University to Host International Conference on UAE’s Islamic Economy
Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: Al Qasimia University (AQU) will host its 11th International Conference on February 3-4, 2027, focusing on the United Arab Emirates’ experience in developing the Islamic economy and prospects for its future growth.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and Founder of Al Qasimia University, the conference will be held at the university campus, with participants also able to join remotely through Zoom.
Titled “The United Arab Emirates’ Efforts in the Islamic Economy: Reality, Achievements and Future Prospects,” the conference will bring together researchers, academics, experts and representatives of relevant institutions to examine the UAE’s achievements and explore opportunities to further develop the Islamic economy.
AQU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Awad Al Khalaf said the conference reflects the university’s commitment to addressing contemporary national issues from academic and scientific perspectives while highlighting the UAE’s leading experiences in development, economics and innovation.
He noted that the UAE’s Islamic economy model combines strategic vision, legislative and regulatory frameworks, Sharia governance and financial innovation, strengthening the sector’s contribution to sustainable development.
The conference will cover six principal themes, including the UAE’s strategic vision for the Islamic economy, Islamic finance, legislation and Sharia governance, awqaf and zakat, Islamic fintech and the digital economy, as well as education, academic research and specialized talent development.
Discussions will also examine the role of the Central Bank of the UAE, innovation in Islamic financial products and services, digital transformation in zakat management, and the Sharia and regulatory dimensions of emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, virtual assets and crowdfunding.
The university has invited academics, researchers, experts, postgraduate students, research centres, government and regulatory bodies, waqf and zakat institutions, Islamic banks, takaful and investment companies, and financial technology firms to contribute research to the conference.
The deadline for abstract submissions is September 30, 2026, while authors of accepted abstracts will be notified on October 5. Full research papers must be submitted by December 15, with final acceptance results scheduled to be announced on January 2, 2027.
The conference is expected to provide an international academic platform for documenting and analysing the UAE’s experience in the Islamic economy and sharing its knowledge and outcomes with researchers and relevant institutions at regional and international levels.
