Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, during his visit to the United States, gave an interview to U.S. television channel Fox News, with the channel’s website publishing an article based on several of his remarks.

In the interview, President Aliyev described recent developments as a significant milestone toward peace. “I think it will be very difficult for any country, whether it’s a country situated in our region or far away, to say something bad about today’s achievement. Because today, we actually made a final step towards peace,” he said.

The Fox News article noted that the agreement on the Zangezur TRIPP corridor is not directed against any nation. President Aliyev emphasised that the initiative is a new connectivity project set to become an important component of international transportation routes.

The Azerbaijani leader expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for their role in securing the agreement.

Addressing relations with Russia, President Aliyev commented on the December 2024 incident involving the downing of Azerbaijan Airlines flight number 8243. He stated that Azerbaijan does not believe the attack was intentional. “The only thing that we demanded was to admit that, punish those who committed that crime, even if it was not intentional, and pay compensation to the victims and to the airline,” he underlined.
