Australia Formally Recognizes State of Palestine

Canberra, The Gulf Observer: Australia has officially recognized Palestine as a sovereign state, joining more than 150 countries worldwide in extending diplomatic recognition, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
The decision, which had been signaled in August, was confirmed on Sunday in a joint statement issued by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
“Australia recognises the legitimate and long-held aspirations of the people of Palestine to a state of their own,” the statement read.
The leaders emphasized that the move underscores Australia’s enduring commitment to a two-state solution, describing it as “the only path to enduring peace and security for the Israeli and Palestinian people.”
