Azerbaijan Elected to Key UN Commissions on Population and Social Development

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of two key functional commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), securing seats on the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD) for 2026–2030 and the Commission on Social Development (CSocD) for 2025–2029.
The CPD plays a central role in shaping international strategies on population dynamics, demographic trends, migration, urbanization, and their link to sustainable development. Meanwhile, the CSocD focuses on social policy, social protection systems, the rights of vulnerable groups, and efforts to improve overall welfare.
Azerbaijan is currently serving as a member of UN ECOSOC for 2025–2027, and its election to both commissions further strengthens its engagement within the UN’s principal platform for coordination, policy review, and policy dialogue on economic, social, and environmental issues.
Officials noted that Azerbaijan’s representation in these bodies will provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s priorities in social protection reforms, innovation in public services, achievements in poverty reduction, and broader efforts aimed at improving the well-being of the population on the international stage.
Membership in the CPD and CSocD will also enhance Azerbaijan’s ability to contribute to UN activities and expand international cooperation in areas critical to sustainable and inclusive development.
