Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Speaker Urges Respect for International Law and Peaceful Conflict Resolution

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has called for stronger parliamentary diplomacy, respect for international law and the peaceful resolution of conflicts in a video address to participants of the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Themed “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully,” the conference brought together parliamentary leaders to discuss ways to promote peace, international cooperation and shared prosperity.

In her address, Gafarova expressed confidence that the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, a young parliamentary organization established in 2025, would continue to develop as an open and effective platform for parliamentary leaders.

She said the organization could make an important contribution to advancing parliamentary diplomacy and promoting the conference’s key objectives, including peace, respect for international law, peaceful conflict resolution and common prosperity.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary speaker emphasized that armed conflicts, geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises threaten human lives, impede development and deepen inequality. She stressed that no country can achieve sustainable peace on its own and no society can prosper in isolation.

Gafarova underscored that lasting peace must be founded on international law and called for strict adherence to the principles of the UN Charter. She stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue, negotiations and other peaceful means.

She also highlighted the practical responsibility of parliaments in supporting these efforts, expressing confidence that parliamentary diplomacy can help ease tensions, build mutual confidence and facilitate the peaceful settlement of disputes.
