Memorial Event in Baku Honors National Leader Heydar Aliyev

Memorial Event

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A memorial event honoring Heydar Aliyev, National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, was held in Baku, bringing together public figures and guests to commemorate his life and enduring legacy.

The event featured the screening of the documentary “The Heart of a Leader,” which highlights the life, leadership and activities of Heydar Aliyev. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, attended the event and watched the film.

The memorial ceremony began with a minute of silence in tribute to the National Leader.

Following the screening, Mikhail Gusman, the author of the documentary, shared insights into the production process. He noted the challenge of encapsulating the life of such an outstanding and multifaceted figure within a one-hour film, explaining that the materials were carefully collected and assembled piece by piece to faithfully portray Heydar Aliyev’s character, values and life path.

Gusman also offered personal reflections on the National Leader, underscoring his strong character, moral fortitude and courage. He emphasised that Heydar Aliyev was guided throughout his life by a clear and unwavering mission — dedicated service to Azerbaijan and its future — and that he faced all challenges with dignity and resilience.

Recalling a particularly powerful scene in the documentary in which Heydar Aliyev faltered during a speech, Gusman described it as a defining moment that vividly illustrates the leader’s moral strength, endurance and deep sense of responsibility. He noted that Heydar Aliyev devoted his entire life to the prosperity and well-being of Azerbaijan and its people, leaving behind a legacy rooted in selfless service and commitment to the nation’s future.
