Documentary “The Oligarch’s Design” Premieres in Baku, Launching AnewZ Investigations Platform

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Nizami Cinema Center on December 19 hosted the premiere screening of the documentary “The Oligarch’s Design,” part of an investigative series produced by the international television channel AnewZ.

The screening ceremony was attended by a distinguished audience, including members of parliament, heads of Azerbaijani television channels and news agencies, senior media executives, as well as prominent public and political figures.

Prior to the screening, Rufat Hamzayev, Executive Director of AnewZ, addressed the audience and shared insights into the production process. He noted that the premiere also marked the official launch of the “AnewZ Investigations” platform, describing the documentary as a comprehensive example of international investigative journalism.

Hamzayev stated that work on the film began in January this year and that the production process spanned 10 to 11 months, with filming carried out across eight countries. He added that nearly 100 professionals were involved in the project.

The documentary examines Ruben Vardanyan’s renunciation of Russian citizenship in 2022 and his subsequent arrival in the region to join the political leadership of the self-proclaimed separatist regime. These developments are analyzed through extensive research and interviews conducted in Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Ukraine, featuring perspectives from lawmakers, legal experts, regional analysts, and journalists.

Following the introductory remarks, guests watched the premiere screening of “The Oligarch’s Design.” The film also addresses the role of the Aurora Foundation, incorporating interviews with representatives of the platform, which has included prominent international figures over the years.
