Azerbaijan and Georgia Reaffirm Strong Interparliamentary Ties

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, met with Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, who is visiting Azerbaijan to attend the 10th meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia.

Emphasizing the importance of the trilateral format, Speaker Gafarova recalled that this mechanism was established in Baku in 2014, with a subsequent meeting held in Shusha in 2022. She noted that the trilateral cooperation among Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia contributes significantly to peace, stability, cooperation, and economic development across the region.

During the meeting, Nikoloz Samkharadze conveyed the greetings of Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, to Sahiba Gafarova.

The two sides commended the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, highlighting successful bilateral cooperation in implementing strategic regional projects. They also praised the steady development of interparliamentary ties, underscoring the vital role of close contacts between the Speakers and members of parliament of both countries in further strengthening bilateral relations.

Discussions also focused on cooperation within international parliamentary platforms, as well as ongoing bilateral interparliamentary collaboration.

Speaker Gafarova briefed the Georgian delegation on the current regional situation and emerging opportunities following the Washington Summit held last August.

For his part, Samkharadze stressed that all three countries in the region would benefit from progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reaffirming Georgia’s support for these efforts.

The meeting also covered other issues of mutual interest.
