UAE National Orchestra Joins Global Performing Arts Network WAPA

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The UAE National Orchestra has officially joined the World Association for Performing Arts (WAPA), marking a significant milestone in its long-term strategy to build an international network of creative and institutional partnerships.
The membership follows the Orchestra’s participation in the Beijing Forum for Symphonic Music, where Managing Director Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi delivered a keynote address highlighting the formation of the Orchestra and its artistic vision.
The invitation to speak and the positive reception to her keynote address reflected growing international interest in the UAE National Orchestra as a new cultural institution representing a distinct national sound—one rooted in heritage while embracing a forward-looking spirit.
By joining WAPA, the UAE National Orchestra becomes part of a global community of leading performing arts institutions from 22 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. The association serves as a platform for connection, exchange, and collaboration, supporting the development of creative partnerships that bridge cultural geographies and artistic traditions.
The membership aligns with the Orchestra’s broader vision to establish long-term partnerships and cultural relationships worldwide. It also underscores its commitment to representing the UAE on the international stage through an original national voice that reflects the nation’s identity, values, and ambitions.
Commenting on the development, Sheikha Al Qassimi said that becoming part of WAPA marks an important step in building the Orchestra’s international presence. She noted that participation in the Beijing Forum and subsequent discussions affirmed the relevance of the Orchestra’s vision and highlighted global interest in the UAE’s evolving cultural institutions.
Launched in 2020 by the China National Centre for the Performing Arts, WAPA provides an international platform for cooperation across the performing arts sector. The association supports joint productions, touring initiatives, digital collaborations, and talent development programs, and currently includes 34 member institutions worldwide.
The UAE National Orchestra’s engagement with WAPA represents a key milestone in its expanding international journey, laying the foundation for sustained creative partnerships and cultural collaboration in the years ahead.
