President Prabowo Orders Strengthening of National Mineral Company to Accelerate Indonesia’s Downstream Industrialization

President Prabowo

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed officials to strengthen the role of the National Mineral Company during a limited cabinet meeting held at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Monday evening.

The directive was confirmed in a statement issued by Indonesia’s Government Communication Office and posted on the president’s official social media account in Jakarta.

“The president held a limited meeting on the National Mineral Company with members of the Red and White Cabinet to discuss future downstream industrialization agendas,” the statement said.

President Prabowo emphasized that reinforcing the National Mineral Company, known as Perminas, is a strategic step aimed at ensuring Indonesia’s mineral resources are managed in a more integrated and efficient manner.

He noted that strengthening the company would help create greater added value for the national economy by expanding downstream processing industries.

During the meeting, the president stressed that accelerating downstream industrial development must be supported by advances in domestic technology and improvements in industrial capacity. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening human resources to support Indonesia’s ambitions in the mineral and energy sectors.

According to officials, these initiatives are part of broader efforts to transform Indonesia into a regional production and innovation hub while reinforcing national energy independence and global competitiveness.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia sat to the president’s left during the meeting, while across from Prabowo was Brian Yuliarto, head of the Mineral Industry Agency and also minister of higher education, science and technology.

Other senior officials present included State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa also attended the meeting.

Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid were among the cabinet members present.

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Agus Subiyanto also joined the discussions, along with Vice Armed Forces Commander Tandyo Budi Revita and Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari.

Several executives and officials, including Sigit P. Santosa, defense logistics chief Yusuf Jauhari, and Pertamina commissioner Hasan Nasbi, also participated in the meeting.

Beyond the Perminas agenda, the meeting also reviewed progress on Indonesia’s national food and energy self-sufficiency programs.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the strategic session evaluated ongoing initiatives to ensure adequate food supplies and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) availability ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday expected in mid-March 2026.
