Sri Lanka Defeat Bangladesh by 63 Runs to Win Bronze Medal at Asian Games

Colombo, The Gulf Observer: Sri Lanka secured the bronze medal in the Men’s T20 Cricket third-place playoff at the Asian Games with a comprehensive 63-run victory over Bangladesh.

Batting first, Sri Lanka found themselves in early trouble after losing four wickets for just 29 runs during the powerplay. However, they staged a strong recovery to post a competitive total of 165 for nine in their allotted 20 overs.

Tharindu Ratnayake led the Sri Lankan revival with an explosive 65 off just 32 deliveries, striking seven fours and five sixes. Sahan Arachchige contributed 33 runs, while Ashen Bandara added 18.

Ratnayake and Arachchige formed a crucial 50-run partnership from only 25 balls, with Ratnayake reaching his half-century in just 26 deliveries.

Bangladesh’s chase of 166 got off to a disastrous start as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Although they reached 50 runs in 8.1 overs, Bangladesh had lost six wickets for 66 runs by the end of the 9.4th over.

Nasum Ahmed was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 26 runs, followed by Yasir Ali Chowdhury with 21 and Parvez Hossain Emon with 20.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers completed the job by dismissing Bangladesh for 102 in 17.3 overs, sealing a convincing 63-run victory and securing the bronze medal.
