Saudi

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Prince Faisal bin Farhan held extensive talks with Anita Anand at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Riyadh on Monday, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral ties and advancing a comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation across a broad range of sectors, particularly in priority areas such as trade, investment, space, artificial intelligence, mining, tourism, education, and pharmaceuticals.

They also underscored the need for coordinated international efforts to reduce tensions, enhance maritime and energy security, and safeguard critical infrastructure.

The discussions included an exchange of views on the latest regional developments, with both sides condemning Iran’s destabilising activities in the region, including attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, which they said threaten regional and global security.

The ministers called on Iran to immediately cease such actions and adhere to international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles of good neighbourliness. They further stressed the importance of Iran’s compliance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and urged it to halt support, funding, and arming of affiliated militias in Arab countries.

For her part, Anita Anand expressed Canada’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and conveyed appreciation for the Kingdom’s assistance in facilitating the return of Canadian citizens. She reaffirmed Canada’s readiness to work closely with Saudi Arabia to promote regional stability and protect civilians amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf and Middle East.

Both sides highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, which span more than five decades and are rooted in shared interests in economic diversification, sustainable growth, and global peace and security.

The ministers noted that bilateral trade exceeded SR12 billion in 2024 and welcomed the establishment of the Saudi-Canadian Business Council as a platform to enhance economic cooperation. They also acknowledged progress in negotiations on an agreement for the promotion and protection of foreign investment.

Additionally, the two sides welcomed the convening of the second Saudi-Canadian Educational Partnership Forum held on March 30, aimed at further strengthening collaboration in the education sector.

Anita Anand expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Kingdom, reiterating Canada’s commitment to building a dynamic and forward-looking partnership with Saudi Arabia.
