Azerbaijan, TRNC Strengthen Party-Level Cooperation and Turkic World Ties

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Tahir Budagov, Deputy Chairman and Head of the Central Office of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), met on April 1 with a delegation led by Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Chairman of the National Unity Party (UBP).

During the meeting, both sides underscored that relations between Azerbaijan and the Turkish Cypriot people are grounded in shared history, common values, and enduring friendship. They emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral engagement and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including economy, trade, education, tourism, and humanitarian affairs.

The discussions highlighted the appreciation of the Turkish Cypriot side for the role of Ilham Aliyev in securing observer status for the TRNC within the Organization of Turkic States. Both parties stressed that deepening cooperation within the Turkic world remains a strategic priority, particularly in enhancing the organization’s role in contemporary international affairs.

The meeting also focused on strengthening ties between the ruling political parties of Turkic states, with particular attention given to the current status and future prospects of YAP–UBP relations. The sides emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, exchange of experience, and reciprocal visits to advance common objectives.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, the parties exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to further consolidating political and institutional collaboration.
