Azerbaijan, UAE Parliamentary Leaders Discuss Expanding Strategic Cooperation
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, Maryam Majid Bin Theneya, in Bukhara on May 14 to discuss strengthening bilateral and inter-parliamentary relations.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized that relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE continue to develop in an atmosphere of brotherhood, mutual respect, trust and support. They highlighted the significant role played by the leaders of both countries, as well as high-level reciprocal visits, in elevating bilateral ties to the level of a strategic partnership.
The two officials also discussed cooperation within international and regional organizations, noting successful collaboration and mutual support in platforms including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Speaker Gafarova praised the participation of UAE parliamentary representatives in the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of the Second Asian Women’s Forum and the significance of discussions held during the event. Both sides noted that such parliamentary platforms play an important role in advancing bilateral cooperation and promoting dialogue on regional and international issues.
Reflecting the close relations between the two countries, the officials underlined the successful cooperation established between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and the UAE, both bilaterally and within international parliamentary organizations.
They further stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary friendship groups in deepening relations and highlighted the role of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and the UAE Federal National Council as a key framework for expanding future cooperation.
