President Aliyev Hails Centenary of First Turkological Congress as Milestone for Turkic Unity

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President Ilham Aliyev has welcomed the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, describing its observance during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) as a development of special symbolic significance.

In a message addressed to participants of the Turkic World Week marking the centenary of the historic congress, President Aliyev said he was pleased that the initiative he proposed at the 12th Summit of the Council of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, held in Gabala last October, had now been realized.

“I am pleased that the initiative I put forward last October at the 12th Summit of the Council of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States in Gabala regarding the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress is being realized today,” the President said.

Aliyev emphasized that the coincidence of the Turkic World Week with Azerbaijan’s current chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States adds particular symbolic value to the celebrations.

He noted that the First Turkological Congress, held at the historic Ismailiyya Palace in Baku, brought together leading figures in global Turkology and distinguished scholars, laying the ideological foundation for the cultural integration of Turkic peoples united by a shared history and rich cultural heritage.

According to the President, the congress remains a landmark event in the intellectual and cultural history of the Turkic world and continues to serve as a source of inspiration for strengthening cooperation and preserving the common identity of Turkic nations.

The commemorative events are being held as part of Turkic World Week, highlighting the enduring legacy of the First Turkological Congress and reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to promoting unity, cultural dialogue and collaboration among Turkic states.
