President Emomali Rahmon Calls Metallurgy Strategic Investment in Tajikistan’s Future

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President Emomali Rahmon has underscored the strategic importance of developing Tajikistan’s metallurgical industry, describing investment in black metallurgy as an investment in the country’s future and a key pillar of its long-term industrialization strategy.

Speaking during a meeting with government officials, industrial leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors in the Sughd region, President Rahmon stressed that the expansion of the metallurgy sector would strengthen national economic resilience, enhance value-added production, reduce import dependence, and create new employment opportunities.

The President instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to prepare and submit a Black Metallurgy Development Program for 2027–2035, aimed at establishing a complete production chain, ensuring the efficient use of the country’s mineral resources, and increasing the production of competitive, export-oriented products.

President Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan possesses significant reserves of iron ore and other mineral resources that should be processed domestically to maximize economic benefits. He called for greater participation from domestic and foreign investors in the establishment of modern metallurgical enterprises equipped with advanced technologies and environmentally sustainable production methods.

Highlighting the country’s industrial ambitions, the President said that expanding the black metallurgy sector would not only reduce reliance on imported steel products but also boost the competitiveness of Tajik industries and increase exports to regional markets. He urged authorities to improve the investment climate, facilitate public-private partnerships, allocate land for new industrial projects, and strengthen workforce training in line with modern manufacturing requirements.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing cooperation with leading international partners, including Chinese metallurgical companies involved in projects related to iron ore processing, cement, glass, and lime production. President Rahmon encouraged investors to capitalize on Tajikistan’s favorable business environment and abundant natural resources to accelerate industrial development.

The initiative forms part of Tajikistan’s broader national strategy to transform the country into an industrialized economy, with metallurgy identified as one of the priority sectors for sustainable economic growth and diversification.
